At the end of May, the NJDOE launched a new application and certification program, the New Jersey Educator Certification System or NJEdCert. On June 1, 2022, NJEdCert will be available. Educators may apply on/after June 1 for all certificates and credentials. 

*New applications, Renewal of provisional certificates, Renewal of emergency certificates, Standard application for all CE and CEAS candidates who have completed the PTP process and All Substitute Credential applications

Substitute Teachers

Qualifications

  • Must hold a NJ Teaching License or a NJ Substitute Teacher License
  • Valid New Jersey Teacher Instructional Certificate preferred
  • NJ Substitute Teacher License requires a minimum of 30 college credits
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while a regular teacher is absent
  • Ability to follow lesson plans, left by the permanent teacher or paraprofessional
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
