Power Outage Follow-Up- Friday, March 7, 2025
Dear Rockaway Borough School Community,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to update you on the recent school closure due to unexpected power outages in the area, which affected our ability to maintain a safe and functional learning environment for students and staff.
Upon receiving notification of the outage, we consulted with pertinent staff members, the Rockaway Borough Police Department, and JCP&L. After careful consideration of key factors, such as the uncertainty of power restoration timelines, lack of heating and lighting, potential lunch issues, and the constraints of our early dismissal schedule, we made the decision to close the school. Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our students and community.
We understand that the closure may have caused inconvenience for your family, and we greatly appreciate your understanding and support during this unforeseen circumstance.
One of our objectives in potential delay or closure situations is to notify you as early as possible, even the evening before, if the situation permits.
The power was restored shortly after 10:30 a.m., and all systems are now fully operational in preparation for school reopening on Monday. I would like to thank our staff members who were on site at various times throughout the day to ensure everything was up and running properly.
Please look out for further communication from the schools and/or the Board of Education office regarding the rescheduling of parent-teacher conferences.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Sincerely,
Anthony Grieco
Superintendent of Schools
